In an art classroom, I aim to redefine the concept of art and
creativity. I hope to share that art is more than just accurate skills and techniques. I believe art can be used to respond to the world around us and critically think about our life experiences. By focusing on the context behind the work, students will be able to share and enhance their thoughts through a visual perspective. I believe every student arrives at an art classroom with valuable traits that can benefit their art-making skills. This can be technique, knowledge, life experiences, or a unique artistic style.
As an educator, I intend to bring these characteristics to the students’ attention and allow them to be aware that every artist has something valuable to offer to an audience. I would like to think of my class as an art collective where we can share our work, inspire and encourage others, and develop a large range of new artistic skills

An art class has much more potential than to create landscapes, portraits, and render an image with realistic qualities. It can offer students knowledge on how to provide and receive constructive criticism. It can also allow the students to have formal conversations in response to art movements that reflect history. Casual conversations will also be emphasized to maintain a community that promotes growth between other classmates and themselves. By the end of the year, I hope my students gain a strong understanding of art and the life lessons that came from it.
